December 2021 Dispatch

Dear friends,

We’re hoping you’re well as the year contemplates turning. We’ve been thinking a lot about the passage of time and the turning of the year, having just come up on the anniversary of taking our seats as the first elected council members of the new Marlboro College Alumni Association. Thank you for taking a chance on us. We have some news and progress we are really happy to share.

First, the MCAA has been granted 501 (c) 3 status and is now recognized as a non-profit organization by the federal government! It took effort, time, energy (and, yes, some money) to make this happen. We want to thank alumni Dave Simonetti ‘91, Amy Domrad Tudor ‘99, and Randy George ‘93 for their consultation and help as we navigated the legal and bureaucratic process.

Being an incorporated and recognized non-profit is a good thing for a lot of reasons, but one is that it means that we will now be much more able to raise and hold funds for the things the organization needs.

So we want to know what you think our most important needs are--not only those that will require financial resources, but in broad terms. In order to identify our most important priorities, together, we’ll be doing more in the coming months to connect with our membership.

To start with, we’ve put together a survey that asks you to help determine the focus and priorities for the organization. We also make space in this survey for more open-ended questions and suggestions. Please find the survey HERE. In addition, we will make it accessible on our website and the MCAA Facebook page. We are looking for as broad and robust a response as possible, so do share with your communities. We want to hear not only from alumni in the sense of former students, but also from former faculty, staff, Oxford fellows, and other friends of the college. Please fill out the survey by January 1 so we can be sure to receive your response.

ALUMNI SURVEY - December 2021

Finally, our resources subgroup has continued to meet with Ellen McCollough-Lovell, who was president of Marlboro between 2004 and 2015, and is now a board member for the Marlboro Music Festival. As you know, the Festival is seeking to develop relationships with many people and organizations who have a connection to the campus on Potash Hill, and our conversations have been friendly and productive.

As always, drop us a line at info@marlborocollegalumniassociation.com with any questions or suggestions, or just to be in touch. We love hearing from you.

With good wishes and sincere thanks,

Marlboro College Alumni Council
